WASHINGTON — The Educational Testing Service has announced that it is temporarily suspending registration for its tests in Iran, including the popular Test of English as a Foreign Language, in what may be one of the first tangible effects of the new sanctions levied against the country by the international community.

The Educational Testing Service (ETS), the developer of TOEFL and TOEIC, is receiving applications from college students for scholarships.
The U.S.-based test organizer said it will open applications until Aug. 13 and select 30 students for the scholarships worth $ 120,000.
Candidates should be a student at a Korean university with a grade point average of 3.225 or above out of a full score of 4.3, or 3.375 or above out of 4.5 points.

TOEIC test applicants under the Institutional Testing Program (ITP), given to a group of candidates for special purposes by companies or schools, scored nearly 100 points lower than individual test takers under the monthly Secure Testing Program (STP).
According to YBM Sisa, the Korean importer of the English proficiency test, those under the ITP averaged 521 points out of 990 last year, while those under the regular STP averaged 619.
