I'm going to apply for the toefl test by the 14th of December. I tried to solve the practice sets and I was doing well. When I started with practice tests I am running out of time specially in the reading section. Noting that my answers are almost correct but my worry is about the time. That is making me upset and I started to lack confidence.
My question lies here. Is it ok not to read the whole passage at the beginning but start directly paragraph that is directly related to the question. Or if you have any advice pleaseee...
Running out of time in TOEFL reading section
There are different strategies in taking TOEFL iBT reading section. You can find speed reading for example very useful to cope with the time pressure. You just scan the text for no more than 2 minutes to obtain general understanding of the topic, main idea of the text and as many details as possible. Pay attention to every first sentence of each paragraph. Pay attention also to the introductory and conclusion paragraphs. You will find most of the information summarized there. Don’t stick to the text for more than 2 minutes. That type of reading will allow you to get the main idea of the text and the main idea of each paragraph. Searching the information then will be much easier.
However, that strategy would only work if you’ve practiced it enough. Otherwise, you may end up with 2 minutes lost and thus even less time to cope with the reading section. Our reading tests are very useful to get some practice in the reading. We suggest that you also go through our reading section tips within our website.
Further, we have developed an online TOEFL course that is very useful to develop some reading skills to cope with the time pressure and also with the difficulties on each TOEFL question
Thank you that was useful and I am improving
